Krishna Janmashtami Celebration on 24th
August 2008
On 24th
August 2008 Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated in
Omkarananda Ashram Himalayas with deep devotion.
A small Krishna-Gopal Murti
was placed in a beautifully decorated cradle, surrounded
by many deepas and flowers, in the Mandap of
Omkarananda-Kamakshi-Devi Mandir, at the shrine of
Balaji and Padmavati.
The Omkarananda Ashram Priests
performed special Pujas for Krishna-Gopalji and
celebrated His Birthday with powerful Bhajans and
Kirtan. Many Devotees took part in this celebration.
As a part
of the celebration, Kumari Somashekhari and her
students, Neha and Pinky, performed devotional dances in
the beautiful Temple, which were all dedicated to Lord
Krishna.
After the dance-performances
were completed, Shri Swami Vishveshwarananda, President,
Omkarananda Ashram, warmly greeted and thanked all
participants of this holy function.
With the assistance of Shri
Sukumarji, Omkarananda Ashram Inmate and Trustee of the
Omkarananda Charitable Trust, Swami Vishveshwarananda
honoured the Priests, the Temple-Dancers and special
guests and devotees with gifts and flowers.
Shri
Swami Vishveshwarananda spoke a few words on Krishna
Janmashtami and Lord Krishna, which were very inspiring
and went deep into the hearts of all devotees.
Then a nice Arati was
performed for Lord Krishna Gopalji by the
Temple-Priests, in which all devotees took part.
No
function is complete without Prasadam. This year the
Prasadam was specially delicious and among different
varieties of Prasad, all devotees could enjoy the
favourite dish of Shri Krishna-Gopalji: wonderful fresh
Butter with Sugar crystals, which was served to
everybody in nice small earthen pots.
Om Shri Krishnaya Namah Om
Excerpt from the
Speech by H.H. Shri Swami Vishveshwarananda on the
occasion of Krishna Janmashtami, 24th August 2008 :
"Today is Krishna Jayanti. We
should have the image of Krishna – we should have the
feeling of Krishna, not only on this very day, but we
should always keep it in our hearts, so long and so
strong, that we all are becoming conscious of Lord
Krishna.
"Then, if that takes place, He
will work through us, He will speak through us, He will
protect us.
"But when we are turning away
from Him, how He can help us?
"He is always here. He is
always in our front. He is always ready to help us.
"We just have to open
ourselves."

Swami Vishveshwarananda
